Brackets & Jam 

One of Australia's best, oldest & longest running community arts events. 

Founded by a young saxophonist, Mark Elliot in 1980 at Nimbin in the Rainbow Cafe.

The first incarnation of B&J ran till 1982.

In 1988 it was relaunched in a warehouse in Alberta Street in Surry Hills, Sydney Australia. 

Held at various locations around Sydney & across the country 

over the last 43+ years & still going strong.
Always fantastic events full of wonderful entertainment & good people . Live Australian music, poetry, circus, theatre, dance and more. 

Brackets & Jam was founded as a volunteer based community arts organisation providing encouragement & assistance to artists.

The original B&J has also provided encouragement & assistance to other groups wishing to start a similar community organisation such as Brackets & Jam Central Coast, B&J New York City, B&J in LA, B&J Byron Bay, B&J Nimbin, B&J Blue Mountains, B&J Darwin & B&J Cairns.

 Brackets & Jam nurture, support & facilitate performing arts.

B&J encourage & support cultural diversity & community interaction. 

We support equality, equal opportunity & sustainability.

At the end of the day

 The best thing is connecting audiences to artists. 

Be it live music, theatre, poetry, dance, circus, mime, visual arts or any type of artistic endeavour.

Were you ever a performer or friend of Brackets & Jam ?

During the early years Brackets & Jam Sydney were open every Monday night, 50 - 51 weeks a year for a first stint of 14 years.

Around 700 nights with say 14 different Brackets plus a long Jam to end.

In that first 14 years we had over 10,000 different performances with an average of 4 players per performance.

The live music audience average through B&J on any night was circa 160 people and sometimes many more.

160 people on 700 nights equals over 112,000 people who shared their love of the arts hanging out at Brackets & Jam in Sydney Australia.
